Emotional experience in patients with chronic renal failure

The diploma thesis deals with the emotional experience of patients with chronic renal failure. It aims to explore positive and negative emotional experiences, the presence of depressive and anxiety symptoms, the degree of anger and alexithymia in patients with chronic renal failure undergoing hemodialysis. The theoretical part summarizes previously published theoretical knowledge in this area and the empirical part describes the statistical measurement and comparison of selected variables of emotional experience in the research sample. The theoretical part is divided into 4 chapters, the first of them deals with the medical aspects of chronic renal failure and its treatment. The second chapter deals with the coping with illness, defines psychological aspects of chronic disease and describes the patient's subjective perception of the disease and attitudes towards the disease. The third chapter summarizes the definitions of emotions and emotional experience and defines the most respected theories of emotion. The fourth chapter describes the emotional experiences of illness, factors affecting the emotional experience of illness and deals with depression, anxiety, anger and alexithymia, at the end focuses on current research in this area. Traits of the "cancer-prone personality" in women with breast cancer

The thesis is dedicated to the psychosocial aspects of women with breast cancer, such as stressful events, coping strategies, social support and personal and emotional factors and their possible specificity for this group of women. Aim of the theoretical part is a summary of the findings of type C personality, personality disposed to cancer and the overview of researches and particular results. The empirical part of the thesis is based on retrospective quantitative research with a focus on the number of stressful events, coping strategies, social support and features of alexithymia in women diagnosed with breast cancer (N = 70). These results were compared with a control group of women whose cancer have not been diagnosed (N = 81). The results show a significant difference in the amount of stressful events. Namely women with breast cancer have demonstrated significantly more stressful events prior to diagnosis than women without cancer. In addition, a significant difference has been found in the use of negative coping strategies which women without cancer experience using negative coping strategies more frequently than women with breast cancer. Self-reflection in clients with psychosomatic disorders

This bachelor thesis deals with psychosomatic disorders in connection with self-reflection, alexithymia and mindfulness. The work is divided into theoretical and practical part. There is a description of what is a subject of psychosomatic medicine and what are different forms of self-reflection in theoretical part. In this part, there are also descibed some therapeutic approaches and it is explained what is a problem of psychic disorder called alexithymia. Last chapter is about abilities which are connected with midnfulness. Quantitative practical part compares scores in Toronta-Alexithymia Scale, Self-reflection and Insight Scale and Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire with one another. The aim of this thesis is explore the variances in these questionnaires and find out if there is some connection with therapeutic sessions.
